WHO OWNS ANDRIOD?

Android was founded by Andy Rubi in 2003 under the company name Android, Inc. It is correct that he previously worked for Apple and Microsoft, however, he quit Apple, Inc. about 15 years before the official iPhone was originally launched.

In 2005, Google finished obtaining Android, Inc. Hence, Google becomes the writer of Android.

After two years of obtaining Android, Google launched the Open Handset Alliance (OHA), which
enumerate companies, especially mobile device manufacturers, which ships some of their devices with Google's Android OS (with Google Play Services). This leads to the fact that Android is not just owned by Google, but also all members of the Open Handset Alliance
including
1. Samsung  2. Lenovo   3. Sony and other companies that makes Android devices.

As Android is Open source, anyone can get these parts freely as regulated by the license. As a result, many variants of Android are also made available, which lead to the creation of custom ROMs and inspires Google to create the “Be Together, Not the Same” motto of Android.

In addition to Google and the Open Mobile Alliance, there are some companies and communities responsible for the development of customized Android ROMs, including:

1. LineageOS is the community revival of the popular CyanogenMod custom ROMs.

2. OpenMobile WorldWid: responsible for providing Android services and OpenMobile ACLAndroid runtime for Samsung's Tizen (and probably BlackBerry's QNX and BlackBerry 10 as well).

3. BlackBerry: Join as a member of OHA, and they are responsible for porting the Android runtime for QNX and BlackBerry 10.

4. Amazon: Not a member of OHA, but responsible for making the operating system for Amazon Fire devices that are also based on Android.

5. Jide Technologies: answerable for Remix OS, which ports and changes Android OS for use in PCs.

Finally, Android can  be owned by anyone by grabbing the Android Open Source Project
